| MANHUNTER |
| Year
Released :: 1986 Directed By ::
Michael Mann |
 |
| Movie
Brief |
| A
psychopath is on the loose, killing a family
each full moon and the police and FBI are
seemingly helpless. Enter Will Graham, the
original agent who captured Doctor Hannibal
Lecktor*, to both look into the case itself,
and then eventually engage his wits against
the Dr again, in order to find the culprit
they've dubbed "The Tooth Fairy".
Silence of the Lambs follows the same plotline,
though with a somewhat less experienced
agent in the hotseat against the mind and
wiles of Hannibal.

| THE
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS |
| Year
Released :: 1991 Directed By ::
Jonathan Demme |
 |
| Movie
Brief |
| Yet
another FBI agent is sent to see Lecter
in an attempt to prise information from
his mind which will help the FBI solve a
case related to ... you guessed it, a psychopathic
killer on the loose. This time the agent
is one Clarice Starling [Jodie Foster].
Foster's Starling engages Hopkins' Lecter
in an extremely taut cat-and-mouse interplay
which delivers what must be called some
of the finest scenes in movie history in
which Lecter trades information on the killer
for an equally probing insight into the
life of Clarice Starling ...

| HANNIBAL |
| Year
Released :: 2001 Directed By ::
Ridley Scott |
 |
| Movie
Brief |
| Dr.
Hannibal Lecter, where are you? In his time
away from the screen, our favourite dinner
companion and raconteur Dr Hannibal Lecter
has become no less than one of the curators
of the Palazzo Vecchio. However, nothing
attracts attention like the smell of a killer
sum of money, and Lecter falls into a trap
involving an old patient and victim, Mason
Verger, his desire to avenge the suffering
Lecter visited upon him in the past, and
the twisted machinations of Paul Krendler,
Starlings own nemesis within the Government
(the man is utterly insufferable, and gets
his just reward at the end of the movie)

| RED
DRAGON |
| Year
Released :: 2002 Directed By ::
Brett Ratner |
 |
| Movie
Brief |
|
(Same
as Manhunter script
/ story outline, the earlier cinematic adaptation):
a psychopath is on the loose, killing a
family each full moon and the police and
FBI are seemingly helpless. Enter Will Graham,
the original agent who captured Doctor Hannibal
Lecktor*, to look into the case and then
hopefully catch the killer they've dubbed
The Tooth Fairy. Anthony Hopkins brings
back more of the Silence ...-style
Lecter to this particular rendition [same
subdued-but-on-the-edge-of-violence voice]
and this helps make this movie better overall
than Hannibal in many ways.
