Mind Vandal is a dynamic Modern Rock band hailing from Wellington, New Zealand Formed originally under the name OOS in early 2003, Mind Vandal has since gone on to play extensively around New Zealand, and are on the verge of releasing their first studio ablum. They have one previous independant release titled "Truth Serum" under the name OOS. Two years ago at a design session for naming one of the new songs the phrase 'Mind Vandal' came up. It was so good that it was decided to use it as the band name... Over the years there have been some line-up changes (as with most bands). The orignal line up of the band was Blair Malcolmson on Vocals/Guitar, Alan Benton on Guitar, Dan Brooking on Bass, and Dan Smart on Drums. Dan Brooking left the band in early 2006 to go travelling overseas. His spot was filled by Hayden Browne (who was playing drums at the time for Death Metal band Subduction). In September 2006 Blair Malcolmson departed the band, leaving the band without it's main vocalist. Dan Smart (who also played Bass guitar in another band, stepped up and took on the lead vocal role, moving from the drums onto the bass. Blair's shock departure made Hayden realise he needed to get back to his passion, which was playing Drums. And so he moved into the role of drummer for the band. ... And Al, well he stayed just where he was... yay for him! In November 2006 Hayden decided to go back to playing Death Metal, so we enlisted Mr David Timmins as the new drummer - stealing him from the covers band that we had going at the time. In Mid 2007 John Grant-Mackie joined the band as the second guitarist, and continues this role today with his awesome guitar abilities of doom! February 2008 saw the departure of Dave Timmins to return to his home country of England. His personality and his beer drinking is sorely missed. Most of 2008 has been focused on recording the first album, which has taken time due to being recorded in our spare time with our own gear. Drummer auditions were held, and we have recently recruited Ben Payne as the new drummer. Ben is busily being the tour manager for the band Kora at the moment, so the live show is on hold while he fulfills his commitments to them.
